Brilliant start by opening bowlers helped: Narine
Summary

KKR spinner glad to be back amongst wickets

Back in action in VIVO IPL 2016, Sunil Narine was the most economical of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowlers as they restricted Kings XI Punjab to 138. The off-spinner claimed the wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Wriddhiman Saha and contributed to plugging the flow of runs. Speaking to IPLT20.COM after the match in Mohali, Narine, when asked about the key wicket of Maxwell, said, “I think he (Maxwell) played a good shot (but) was just unlucky that it went to one of the fielders. Every day you try to do your best, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Today it worked for me a little bit so I am happy about that. Hopefully I can continue doing that.” Asked about spinners getting purchase from the pitch - eight of the 12 wickets in the match were taken by spinners, the off-spinner said, “I think the boundaries are a little bigger than Kolkata and I think the wicket was a bit slow, but I think it’s based on boundaries. We got a brilliant start from the opening bowlers. So it made it easier in the middle overs to try and do what you are capable and just enjoy playing cricket.” While speaking about his preparations for the Mohali match, Narine mentioned, “All wickets are similar now so you have to change your game plan and make sure you are up for the challenge whatever situation you get. (In) The last two games, I think our opening bowlers did it and that made it easier in the middle overs to relax and bowl.” Reflecting on his first wickets - in KKR’s previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad - since his return to competitive cricket, Narine said, “Yes! It is always good to be amongst wickets. After the slight struggle that I have had, (I’ve been) keen on playing and being back out there. Hope that everything goes well and I continue to play.” “Coming back everyone was keen to see me play and everyone gave me support and everyone said I will be back even better. So it gives me plenty of encouragement to come back and be myself and be with the team. I think everyone has helped with everything. It’s a good team effort - the way the boys rally around me, I am enjoying it,” he said while talking about the appreciation from team-mate Brad Hogg in an earlier media interaction and the support in the dressing room. While talking about his preparation leading to the IPL, he said, “I have generally been just doing the same training over and over and making sure that things are good. (It’s) just being able to step forward and moving forward.” Speaking of the team’s third win, the vital cog in the KKR line-up said, “I think it’s good because we have about 4-5 days break now. It’s good to have three wins after four games. It’s a good thing for the camp and I think it’s going to be nice and relaxed couple of days but having said that, we will need to keep working when the practice is on and go from strength to strength.”
