Daredevils eager to turn tables against Sunrisers
Summary

Team keen to rectify mistakes against table toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad after a refreshing break

After playing a string of games on the trot, the Delhi Daredevils got a bit of time off the field before they reboot their campaign against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday. In a tournament where momentum is given so much of importance, JP Duminy was of the view that the break would augur well going into a crucial game against the Sunrisers at home. “It was a much needed break for us. We have come past the halfway mark in the tournament and it is nice to get a small getaway, refresh and comeback stronger,” Duminy said. “We have played nine games on the bounce and it is good to recharge the batteries and come out strong tomorrow.” Though away from the action, Duminy said the team did find some time to follow few games and make some notes that would prove handy. “The guys would have touched base a little bit and watched a little bit of the games,” continued Duminy stressing on the importance of the last few games at hand. “We know that Sunrisers Hyderabad have been playing some really good cricket and sit at the top of the table. It is going to be a tough game for us but we know that these last five games are all going to be tough. We are coming into the business end of the tournament now, so everybody is going to put their best foot forward. We have played some good cricket in this tournament, but we know we have to improve in the next five games to give ourselves a good chance.” One of Daredevils’ biggest tests would be to counter the bowling attack of Sunrisers. They have variety in the pace attack with three left-arm seamers ready to snare down their throats. The Sunrisers are coming off a thriller against the Rising Pune Supergiants where they successfully defended a paltry total of 137. Ashish Nehra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mustafizur Rahman and Barinder Sran got into the act and kept the Supergiants batsmen under check. Such has been their bowling prowess that even a batting heavy Mumbai Indians were bundled out under 100 against them. The Daredevils were aware of the challenge and Duminy believed they had the batting line-up to counter Sunrisers’ attack. “I am sure the guys would have thought about it. We had a bit of planning session and we know that they have their strengths and weaknesses as any team does. Their strength lies in their pace attack and we have to play them accordingly. It doesn’t mean that we cannot negate their pace bowling in any way, we have the line-up that can do it. It is just about putting up a good performance on the day.” When asked if the Daredevils’ line-up that has gone about so many changes in the playing eleven would continue a similar trend against the Sunrisers, Duminy replied. “The changes have been strategic. The teams that we have put have a lot of thinking behind it. I don’t think it is a conscious thing to chop and change as much as we have. We think selections that have taken place according to the opposition and the conditions and when we have felt that is the best eleven on that given day. We will have a similar kind of selection coming up against Sunrisers. Being consistent in our inconsistent team selection has been our way about it. It can play in our favour in some way.”
