Daredevils keen to turn fortunes around
Summary

Will look to play hard and to potential, says de Kock

With a partially revamped team, the Delhi Daredevils are gearing up to make a fresh bid for the Indian Premier League trophy under the captaincy of JP Duminy. As they prepare to turn their fortunes around in the 2015 season, wicketkeeper-batsmen, Quinton de Kock and Kedar Jadhav along with DD’s latest recruit, Australian bowler Gurinder Sandhu, interacted with the media ahead of the latest season of the Twenty20 competition. “Last year we didn’t do very well. This year we have nothing to lose. I am thinking we are just going to go out there, go at it hard at every team. (We will) play to our potential and see where it takes us,” de Kock said. “It’s always nice to have a good start in everything – batting and bowling. It’s always nice to have a good start, but we’d also like to finish on a high,” de Kock added looking forward to DD’s 2015 campaign. Including de Kock, a few of the players across teams are coming into the tournament from the recently concluded 2015 Cricket World Cup. Speaking about the highs and lows, the heartbreak and euphoria experienced during the tournament, the South African said, “It took me time to digest everything that happened. We move on. The World Cup was the World Cup. It’s a tournament that’s in the past. Now it’s time to focus on the next thing. We are all moving on and focusing on the next challenge.” When asked about adjusting to another format within such a short time, he said, “It’s not that hard. It is a lot harder playing fifty-over cricket than Twenty20 cricket. Some don’t have the patience to work around and take singles, (while) some of us actually enjoy hitting sixes all the time. So Twenty20 is a nice little change for me and some of the others.” The latest to join the prestigious league, Sandhu said he is looking forward to learning from the opportunity. “I am just here to learn what I can off all the other guys, all aspects - batting, bowling fielding, everything - from the coach and all the other players and learn about these conditions. I haven’t played a lot of cricket in these conditions although I have been here a few times. (This is) Something very different and I am looking forward to it.” “I talked to a few guys (before joining up with the team). I am lucky enough to be playing here. Moises Henriques, Mitchell Starc, Steven Smith and all those guys are my mates and I’ve been talking to them a little bit. Also my bowling coach back in Sydney is Geoff Lawson, who used to be coach of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala team. So I talked to him a bit about the conditions and what he thinks I should be doing. I think I am prepared. But then again, you never know,” he added. While Sandhu would be debuting this season, Jadhav has become an integral part of the DD squad. A big-hitter of the ball he has been playing in the lower-middle order and is bestowed with the task of finishing games for his team. Speaking about the platform that the tournament has afforded him, the batsman from Maharashtra said, “I think this is a great platform for any youngster to perform well and get noticed. I am one of those who would like to perform and draw attention to my performances. I am not thinking too far ahead; sticking to this IPL and enjoying my team,” he mentioned.
