Summary
Sunrisers will look for their maiden win this season
What Sunrisers Hyderabad will be keen to open their account in VIVO IPL 2016 when they take on the Mumbai Indians in Match 12. Sunrisers Hyderabad are without a win after two matches. In both their matches, the team has been a distant second to their opponents. Against RCB, they were blown away by Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, while in their first home fixture - against KKR – the team struggled for momentum after losing the openers cheaply. It isn’t helping SRH’s cause that they are without two influential players – Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra. Including their defeat in their most recent match against Gujarat Lions – which was decided on the last ball – the Mumbai Indians have one win from three outings. It would be fair to say the team hasn’t played anywhere near potential yet. They crawled their way to 121 in the season opener against Rising Pune Supergiants, and most recently against the Lions, the batting came a cropper slumping to 99 for 7 before a rearguard partnership propelled them to respectability. MI certainly have the resources – on the field and off the field – and therefore it is only a matter of having to get the best out of them. When 18 April 2016, 2000 Hrs IST Where Rajiv Gandhi Intl. The Australian, who can destroy attacks in very little time, gave a glimpse of what he is capable of doing in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The left-hander at times tends to go hard very early in the innings; it would serve his team well if he can just take a few deliveries to size up the opposition. There is plenty of experience otherwise in the SRH line-up – in Shikhar Dhawan, Moises Henriques and Eoin Morgan, and one of them needs to start playing supporting role to their captain. On the bowling front, Mustafizur Rahman has been incredible; the left-arm quick bowler from Bangladesh seems to have a very good temperament and most importantly very good skills. Captain Rohit Sharma is the most important figure in the Mumbai Indians line-up – especially where the team’s batting plans are concerned. There are other good batsmen – Jos Buttler, Ambati Rayudu – to name a couple, but the one who perhaps has the talent and skills to bat deep into the innings is their captain. The team has persisted with the strategy of sending in Hardik Pandya at number three; the move has yielded only 20 runs in 27 balls in the three matches, and this might force the management to rethink that strategy. Head to Head
The Mumbai Indians have a 4-2 win-loss record in six matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mumbai Indians will have fond memories of playing against the Sunrisers, for it was against them that they turned around their season in IPL 2015 and went on to win the title. In the first match in Mumbai, Lendl Simmons (51) and Lasith Malinga (4-23) starred in MI’s win. In the return fixture in Hyderabad – which was a winner-progresses-to-the-Playoffs contest - Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan took five wickets to dismiss the hosts for 113, which MI chased down in under 14 overs.
