The Supernovas will clash with Velocity in the final round-robin match of the Women’s T20 Challenge in what could very well be a dress rehearsal for the Final.
Velocity are currently top of the three-team table with one win and a net run rate of 0.678. If the Supernovas, who are winless and have a NRR of -0.100, prevail in this match, they will displace the Trailblazers from the second position.
The Supernovas lost to the Trailblazers on the opening day; they finished 3 runs short in pursuit of their target of 141.Apart from India’s T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the Supernovas have plenty of exciting talent in their squad in the form of Jemimah Rodrigues, Sophie Devine and Natalie Sciver.
Velocity were in line to register a comprehensive win over the Trailblazers on Wednesday afternoon; instead, there was a dramatic collapse late in the innings – when they lost five wickets without adding a run – and barely got across the line. The young opener Shafali Verma was impressive in the previous match and will be expected to see the team off to a brisk start yet again, while the captain Mithali Raj, Danielle Wyatt and Veda Krishnamurthy are the others who will be expected to make substantial contributions with the bat in the middle-order.
Velocity have a dependable wicket-taker in Shikha Pandey, while Ekta Bisht – who has an economy rate of 5.30 in T20Is – can be expected to keep things quiet in the middle period.
