Preview : M6 – DD vs RR
Summary

DD look for change of fortunes at home

What The Delhi Daredevils will be desperate to break their 10-match losing streak, and this home match against the Rajasthan Royals presents them a great opportunity of stopping the tide. In their opening match of Pepsi IPL 2015, DD came close to getting points on the board for the first time since 27 April 2014, only to find themselves finish agonizingly one run short. The JP Duminy-led side certainly had their moments on the day – but lost out possibly because their opponents did the one-percenters better. The team will take positives from the performance of their bowlers, who controlled the game well in the middle overs, and the way in which Albie Morkel adapted to the number three position. The Rajasthan Royals will be riding high after their 26-run whipping of Kings XI Punjab in their season opener. Despite missing out on the services of regular captain Shane Watson and the batting not quite firing to potential, RR posted sufficient runs on the board after which the bowlers strangled the KXIP batsmen, not once allowing them to get their foot in the run-chase. Given how much cricket is a confidence game, RR certainly begin favourites. When 12 April 2015, 4p.m. IST Where Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium, Delhi The Protagonists DD have a bowling attack to challenge and trouble the best batsmen in business. The onus therefore lies on their batsmen to deliver what is expected of them. Albie Morkel – the most-capped T20 cricketer in the world – will look to carry on the form he showcased in the match against the Chennai Super Kings, and DD will need the two left-handers in the middle - JP Duminy and Yuvraj Singh – to come to the party too. DD fielded an interesting bowling lineup against CSK, leaving out the experienced Zaheer Khan and Mohammed Shami. It will be interesting to see if they can find a place for either speedsters in the XI. RR’s opening fixture against KXIP was a one-man show. James Faulkner played the rescue innings, finished as innings top-scorer, picked up three wickets, took a catch to see the back of a dangerous opposition batsman and saw his reputation grow by several notches. After that kind of a dream outing, the bars of expectation will have been raised and he will be expected to contribute on a consistent basis. RR will also need contributions with the bat from their skipper Shane Watson – who is expected to recover for this match – and from Steve Smith and Ajinkya Rahane. Contests to look-forward to The two leg-spinners in the DD lineup – Amit Mishra and Imran Tahir – bowling to the Rajasthan Royals’ man-in-form Steve Smith promises to make for gripping viewing. Smith isn’t afraid of charging down the pitch and has established a reputation as a very good player of spin. It will be interesting to see how he tackles the two leggies who come into this match with the confidence of having done well in the previous match. Previous Meetings The Rajasthan Royals have a slight edge over the Delhi Daredevils in contests between the two teams. RR have won 8 matches while DD have prevailed on six occasions. Trivia The Delhi Daredevils’ Amit Mishra has three hat-tricks in the IPL – the first of which he picked up at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium in 2008. Yuvraj Singh’s highest score in the IPL is 83; he made that against the Rajasthan Royals in Pepsi IPL 2014. The Delhi Daredevils haven’t won a match at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium in their last seven outings. Their last victory on their home ground was against the Mumbai Indians in April 2013. What Next The Delhi Daredevils head to Pune after this fixture for their away clash against Kings XI Punjab, scheduled for 15 April. The Rajasthan Royals head to Ahmedabad where they play host to Mumbai Indians on 14 April.
