Sandeep, Anureet have bowled well: Bangar
Summary

It’s a matter of time before KXIP returns to winning ways, says coach

While the Rajasthan Royals are undefeated in the Pepsi IPL 2015, the 2014 finalists, Kings XI Punjab have lost three of their four matches. The George Bailey-led side will be faced with a tough task when they take on Shane Watson’s men in Ahmedabad on April 21. Coach Sanjay Bangar, while addressing the media ahead of the match, said, “We want to play the kind of cricket that Kings XI Punjab is capable of playing. We’re not really far away, because we’ve been doing a lot of things right. And it’s just a matter of doing the things right for a bit longer. There have been phases where we have been able to execute the plans we want to, it’s just a matter of giving the finishing touches. I’m pretty sure the team will be able to do it.” Speaking about the challenge awaiting them, the KXIP coach said, “IPL in itself is a very competitive format. All the teams are pretty strong. So irrespective of which opposition, we will try and test our own abilities and our own processes, and achieve what we’ve set out to achieve. I don’t think it’s going to be any different for any other opposition.” Kings XI Punjab themselves were in an enviable position in the previous season. While the entire team was contributing to their unparalleled success in the 2014 season, Glenn Maxwell and David Miller’s were key to their victories. The duo are yet to get going this season. Speaking about their form, Bangar said, “They are very much used to pressure. Both are great international cricketers, both have great international experience. They know how to handle pressure. It’s just a matter of time. You need to be patient at times, because in cricket, there are times when things won’t go your way. But it doesn’t take long for the tide to turn, and we all have confidence in their abilities.” Discussing his responsibilities as coach, the former India all-rounder said, “Generally what you do is try and reinforce and make sure their confidence is high, make sure their mindset is right, make sure under pressure situations (you) give them a quiet sort of reminder about the right decisions to be made at crucial junctures. Those are the things we try and do in the background. Obviously, it’s up to the players’ skill and execution, it matters the most.” While the batting line-up needs to click as a unit, the bowling attack, especially those from India’s domestic circuit, have made their presence felt. Speaking about the bowlers, Bangar said, “I am happy with the way our young Indian bowlers have bowled. Sandeep Sharma and Anureet Singh have both bowled very well in most of the games we’ve played. In three of our four games, the opposition have been five down at the end of the 15th over. That’s a good quality to have. Those are boys who have a very good future ahead of them.” Speaking about the team’s current position in the lower half of the points table, the coach said, “At times, you need to give credit to somebody like Andre Russell. In the last game, he came out and played an absolutely brilliant innings under pressure. As I said earlier it’s a very competitive league and it ensures there are certain areas you need to improve. I’m sure the results will start coming for us.”
