In their first encounter of VIVO IPL 2017, Sunrisers Hyderabad had pulled off a scintillating five-run win against Kings XI Punjab in Hyderabad. The two teams are once again set for a face-off, this time in Mohali at a critical juncture in the tournament. As both teams look to strengthen their positions in the points table, SRH coach Tom Moody looks forward to yet another hard-fought game. “At this point of the tournament you will be foolish to take any team lightly. Kings XI are at that point where they are desperate to secure a couple of wins and we are equally as desperate to secure wins as we want to hold our position up in that top portion of the table. So from this point, there are going to be some pretty cool matches that is going to really influence the table,” Moody said while speaking to the media ahead of the game. “Kings XI have changed their playing eleven a few times so (far). They might probably have a different line up tomorrow; so it is a complete fresh start for us. It won’t be the same eleven against the same eleven. So that will also have an influence on our selection,” he explained while revealing SRH’s approach towards the game, having already played KXIP once earlier in the season. The hosts too are keen to turn things around in their second outing against SRH and have been working towards it. “Last game was very close for us and this time we would like to change things around,” Manan Vohra, who had made a gritty 50-ball 95 in the chase in the previous encounter told the media. “At times, when I look at the points table, I feel that I could have done it better, because we are in the lower half. That’s how it is; you plan something, but you don’t get it all the time. I am trying to learn from my mistakes,” the top-order reflected on his dismissal in the 19th over in the 5-run defeat to SRH. Speaking about his team and available resources, Moody said, “We have got a well-balanced squad as we have had for a number of years. I am comfortable, and as a coach, to have a number of different combinations (is good). I think we need to have an open mind (and) be flexible to pick according to the opponents, conditions (etc). You might remember we played Mohammad Nabi against Kings XI; that was a strategic selection – a good match up against the left-handers.” SRH also have a good bowling option in Rashid Khan says the coach, while quickly reminding, “He took 1/19 in his last game and for any spinner to take 1/19 in a high scoring game (is a fantastic performance). I don’t think they (batsmen) have figured him out. He is a terrific find for us.” While Kings XI will be looking to draw on the advantage of playing at their home venue, SRH too have players in the side who have played here and some who belong here. “Most of our players have played at this venue more than once. I think it is nice to have people (in the team) who come from the region that will give an insight,” Moody observed. One such key SRH player, who has played his domestic cricket here and has also been part of the KXIP team previously, is Yuvraj Singh. While Moody refrained from speaking about the combination or the availability of the stylish left-hander, the SRH coach said, “I have been pretty pleased with Yuvraj. He’s been striking the ball (but) unfortunately he is suffering with flu (and) hence has had to miss a couple of games. But apart from that he looks in good shape. He hits the ball as well as he has for some time. Plenty of runs left in his bat for reminder of the tournament.”
