Sunrisers Hyderabad coach confident about Yuvraj’s inclusion not hampering team balance
The big news for Sunrisers Hyderabad is that their marquee player Yuvraj Singh is fit and raring to go. If the net sessions and the practice drills are hints to go by, Yuvraj looks fit and could well feature in his first game of VIVO IPL 2016. Coach Tom Moody confirmed the same on the eve of their side’s fixture against the Gujarat Lions. “Yuvraj is available for selection and when we finalise the eleven, he is very much in our thoughts,” Moody said. When asked if Yuvraj’s inclusion would hamper the side’s balance, Moody said Yuvraj would blend in easily into the eleven due to his match-winning abilities. “It is not difficult to fit in Yuvraj into the line-up. You have got a match-winner in Yuvraj Singh who is coming back from injury. He has practiced well over the last four days without any issues. Yuvraj adds a lot to our side because it is not only his ability with the bat and being a left-hander which is going to add to our strengths. It is also about what he can do with the ball as well. He brings a lot of experience and versatility to our top six.” Moody also said the side was refreshed after a good break since their win against Royal Challengers Bangalore and were more than eager to go all guns blazing in the games ahead. “We have had a good break, the guys have freshened up and it is in our hands as to how we play the second half of this competition. We have had a good run of games in a row. We have watched all the other matches that were played that time. But there is no point of worrying as to what other teams are doing on the points table. It is important what we are going to do.” Sunrisers next face Gujarat Lions who are coming off a couple of loses on the trot. But with the explosiveness of Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Smith and Aaron Finch at the top, Moody believed his side had to be one step ahead to find success. “They are a threat at the top and there is no question about that. As we experienced when we played them on their home soil, we recognised that they are the few important wickets at the top of the order. We will be well prepared. We played very well in our first outing against them. We take a lot of confidence going into this contest. We also recognise that they have got match-winners that can turn it around on their day. We need to be on top of our game.” While Moody believed in taking confidence from their previous result against Gujarat Lions, Dinesh Karthik reckoned the loss against Sunrisers was a thing of the past. “That was pretty early in the tournament. Things have changed now and the confidence levels of the batsmen and the bowlers are different now to what it was,” Karthik said. “It is going to be an interesting battle. They are a good bowling side. We will look to match up to them and do the best that we can.” Karthik was disappointed with the two losses back to back, but reiterated that there were a few positives that they would be looking to take into the game against the Sunrisers. “We have had two tough games and we batted poorly when batting is our obvious strength compared to our bowling. We haven’t lived up to or expectations and in a long tournament like this, these things are bound to happen. What is important is to keep the same approach in terms of batting and attitude. We need to keep believing. It is important not to start changing things up just because things have not gone your way for two games. We were expecting to do a little better than that but the good thing is that our coach Brad Hodge has got all the boys together and we have now realised where we have gone wrong. We will try and correct those mistakes and put up a brilliant show in the next couple of games. “At this stage it is a good thing that Ravindra Jadeja has got us runs in the last game which is a great plus for us. He is a very important cricketer for us. He forms the crux of the team in the middle-order and it is just a matter of time that Dwayne Bravo gets going. I am confident that if those two guys get going, we are on track for some special things.”
